And finally, a bit of Peak Action

November 7th, 2011

These are far and away my favourite of the images Murray sent through - photographs that clearly show the pivotal moment, and the inherent tension that belongs with that.

Juxtapositions

November 7th, 2011

In the second of our wee series of greatest hits from the current batch studying under Murray Lloyd, here you can see images that show juxtapositions - surprising combinations occurring next to each other within the frame.  Some of these are completely comical, others more thought provoking.  Enjoy.

Random Glimpses

November 7th, 2011

Murray sent me these images recently, some of the best of the selection students submitted for their documentary assignment.  These images fall under the category of ‘Random Glimpse’ - not carefully crafted images, but moments in time captured without the photographer’s intervention.  They’re refreshing, honest, and often surprising.

Paint By Flash - hot off the press

October 19th, 2011

Just last night 20+ students, graduates, and tutors gathered at Marie-Jean’s house to celebrate and once again conduct themselves through the rigours of paint by flash Paekakariki.  Pumpkin soup, Tomato soup, sushi by Tom, Lasagne by Mel, garlic bread, sprinkles, and the bi-annual carrot cake were consumed.  We all sang happy birthday to honour Mel, (who is now officially a pensioner - but don’t tell anyone, he’s still acting like a 30 year old lad), Alison and Kelvin who have all had birthdays recently.

Then it went dark.  Nino, who was the guest toddler for the evening thought it was FANTASTIC that suddenly everyone was running around with flashes and torches and sparklers and the like, and that we’d turned all of the lights off… for AGES.  No injuries were incurred.  The results of their efforts can be seen below, and in addition, a record of the attendees - minus one or two who had to slip away earlier.
