Leala’s new shining star!

November 7th, 2011

We’re excited to post the first work to come through for our wonderful new tutor Leala.  Her student Amy Robertson, featured here, comes from Lake Taupo Christian School.  She’s completed Module 1, and is working her way through the next batch of lessons now.  These images were submitted for her final assessment, and I think they show how much she has learned.  Leala is really pleased with how creative she was willing to be, in particular for her final shot, using different light sources and really putting some oomph into costuming and props.

Amy said: “My purpose of the photo was basically to illustrate an idea. The subject is dressed up fancy and seated in the dark alone, showing that she puts on a show for everyone to see to hide how alone she feels inside. The light dancing around her is to illustrate that there can be a better life out there.”

Really cool.  Thanks Amy, and Leala.

And my favourite work to come out of the online programme so far!!!

September 15th, 2011

Potentially I’m a bit biased - this kind of work is inherently interesting to me because it feels so youthful, but I think Chloe Ramsay of New Plymouth Girls High is showing enormous potential with these shots.  The first shot here is the most commercially viable, beautiful image I’ve seen from our students to this point.  Wonderful work.  Nice one Tonya - you must be doing the right things to encourage the best with these students!!

Zoe Lockie - just proving she has colour theory nailed!

September 15th, 2011

Tonya sent me this wee trio of shots a wee while ago, from Zoe Lockie of Kaitaia College.  The colours are beautiful, and totally show contrast and harmony.  Keep up the good work Zoe!

Focal length in focus by Sirvana Shine

August 1st, 2011

Tonya’s students have been hard at work, and this latest collection from Sirvana Shine are proof of the good learning that is happening around the country in the online programme.  Sirvana has a really good eye for what makes a good spot when photographing using a range of focal lengths.

Kim Hunter hard at work in the world of DANCE!

August 1st, 2011

Kim sent me an email with some photos she’s been shooting lately of the Kapiti Dance competitions, at Southwards Theatre.  She’s one of the organisers of the event, and regularly documents the dancers as they perform.  It certainly looks like some creative footwork, and nice shots taken in a very challenging lighting situation!  Thanks for sharing these Kim.

Yasmin Hughes in the last stages of Module 4

April 6th, 2011

Well, we’ve seen loads of beautiful work form Yasmin throughout her study in the Online programme, and here are some of the final offerings shot for her last few weeks of Module 4.  Delicious textures in the first image, and lots of interesting local colour in these documentary images.
