- To introduce the students to photography
- To understand the basic skills of the 35mm digital SLR
- To develop an awareness of the creative potential of controlled exposure
- To study photographic composition and design
- To generate awareness of the suggestive power of colour
- To understand the importance of light quality and surface texture
- To become aware of on line technical requirements for digital photography
- To identify the steps to, and possibilities for a career in professional
photography
- To develop skills in research, planning, documentation and evaluation
of photographic work
- To develop rudimentary skills in photographic critique
At the end of the program the student will be able to:
- Successfully maintain and operate a 35mm digital camera
- Selectively apply camera controls and light conditions and design
elements for chosen photographic effects
- Approach subjects for photographic capture with technical understanding
of appropriate treatment and creative possibility
- Record their ideas, process and reflection for photographic work
- Search for, approach and interview a professional photographer on career
options
Boutique photographic education delivered on the Kapiti Coast Wellington New Zealand. Certificate programmes in practical and advanced photography. The Photo School encourages students to take photos for their industry during their studies to develop artistically and conceptually. Seminars are delivered at secondary schools, colleges and a diploma course is in development at tertiary level, for further study. NZQA unit standards assessment is used. Whitireia Community Polytechnic partners The Photo School in it's practical and advanced classes. Online learning is a future development.
